About iFoam
IFOAM Organics Europe is the leading European umbrella organization for organic food and farming. With almost 200 member organizations in 34 European countries, we represent and advocate for the organic sector in European policymaking. Our aim is to transform the food and farming system by promoting the principles of organic farming. Organic farming and production in Europe are regulated by strict rules, and as the voice for organic, we advocate for regulations that meet the sector's needs. We believe in the principle of 'public money for public goods' and support the inclusion of farmers who contribute to preserving natural resources in the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and rural development. One of the key aspects of organic farming is its commitment to remaining GMO-free, thereby protecting the collective genetic heritage. We also promote the use of organic seeds, as they contribute to the conservation and evolution of genetic diversity in agriculture. Organic agriculture is not only beneficial for the environment but also plays a crucial role in addressing climate change. By providing crops with the necessary nutrients while protecting soil, water, and air, organic farming helps combat the climate crisis. We prioritize plant health care by promoting practices that enhance crop health, maintain ecosystem balance, and protect human health. Biodiversity, soil, and water are core principles of organic agriculture, and we strive to sustain and enhance them. In addition, we recognize the importance of animal welfare in achieving sustainable productivity and high product quality. We advocate for ethical responsibility towards animals in the organic sector. IFOAM Organics Europe also strives for a more sustainable textile industry. Organic textiles help protect the environment, workers, and farmers by limiting harmful emissions, respecting workers' rights, and educating consumers about the impact of their clothing choices. We advocate for fair and transparent supply chains, aiming to strengthen the positions of vulnerable actors in line with the principles of organic farming. Furthermore, by hosting the secretariat of TP Organics, we promote research and innovation, building the capacity of the organic movement to engage in research and exchange knowledge. Become a member to join our network and contribute to the transformation of Europe's food and farming system. Together, we can drive positive change and create a more sustainable future.
